Balbháin (2020)

Balbháin is a poetic short drama exploring the connection between language and identity in two generations: that of a young Gaeltacht woman emigrating to Scotland in the 1950s who breaks a two-thousand-year language chain when she decides not to speak Irish with her children, and her grandson who is attempting to restore that link seventy years later, despite the struggle to secure his place in the language and culture of his forebears.

Gearrdhráma filiúnta do bheirt aisteoirí is ea Balbháin a chíorann an ceangal idir teanga agus féiniúlacht in dhá ghlúin: bean óg Gaeltachta ar imirce in Albain a réabann slabhra dhá mhíle bliain teanga nuair a chinneann sí gan Ghaeilge a labhairt lena páistí, agus an garmhac aiteach léi atá ag déanamh a dhíchill an tsnaidhm a athcheangal seachtó bliain níos déanaí, gidh nach léir dó go bhfuil áit i dteanga a mhuintir dá leithéid.
